Schweik, Susan M. Using the example of Multiple Sclerosis patients who are unexpectedly disabled in their twenties, Jacqueline Rinaldi discusses how writing can help those who “are likely to internalize their deficiencies as personal failings” in her article “Rhetoric and Healing: Revising Narratives about Disability” (200). Bennett examines previously unexplored connections among writers and genres as well as competing livelihoods and classes. Engaging the histories of rhetoric, medicine, literature, and culture throughout, she goes on to focus specifically on the work of women who professed as well as practiced medicine.
