Social interactionist theory (SIT) is an explanation of language development emphasizing the role of social interaction between the developing child and linguistically knowledgeable adults. It is based largely on the socio-cultural theories of Soviet psychologist, Lev Vygotsky .
What does Interactionalism explore? Interactionism explores exchanges between people, power relations, meanings and roles that are negotiated between actors (individuals), as well as identity formation of the individual. Symbolic Interactionism Relies on the symbolic meaning that people develop and rely upon in the process of social interaction. They believe that people are not a product of their environment; rather the environment is a product of people.
